Larmon Forks
A sample rural parcel in North Georgia with USDA septic ratings draped over the real terrain in 3D.
Role: Independent DotCraft experiment: data, 3D terrain and interface.
The idea / The process
Why this parcel
The USDA soil survey rates every soil for a conventional septic field and says why it may fail: slope, seepage, flooding, rock or a high water table. The ratings live in tables and flat maps. Larmon Forks drapes them over the real terrain of a sample rural parcel in Lumpkin County, Georgia, so the reasons and the flatter pockets can be seen together.
What it does
Four layers: septic limits, where to test first, slope and soil units. Click the ground to read the soil at that spot. The figures inside the sample circle are counted on a 5 m grid.
Limits
It is not a perc test or a soil evaluation; in Georgia the county health department decides from an on-site soil report. USDA maps soils at about 1:24,000, and the circle stands in for parcel lines that are not public in this sample.
