Piñata Party
Break a crepe-paper piñata in 3D with eight weapons and watch candy, coins and confetti rain down. Play it in English or Spanish.
Role: Independent DotCraft experiment: game design, 3D, physics, procedural audio and interface.
The idea / The process
Why a piñata
Some interactions are satisfying because the response is immediate and a little exaggerated: a hit, a shake, a burst. Piñata Party takes that idea to its simplest form. A piñata hangs in front of you, you choose what to hit it with, and it breaks into candy.
What it does
Eight weapons with their own weight, sound and onomatopoeia; twelve piñatas of different hardness; four art directions that change every round. Holding the press charges a stronger hit, and quick hits build a combo. The piñata loses pieces as it takes damage, and when it breaks, hundreds of candies, chocolates, coins and bills fall with real physics while the counter tallies each one that lands.
How it is built
Crepe-paper fringe is drawn in a canvas and layered over each shape. The loot is instanced so hundreds of bodies stay smooth on a phone, and the sounds and music are synthesized in the browser. The quality lowers itself on slow devices. Progress stays on your device only.
Limits
It is a toy, not a stress treatment. It plays in English and Spanish, and there is no score table by design.
